Nalaka Liyanapeli - Managing Director ( Pyromax Engineering Solutions (Pvt) Ltd )

Nalaka Liyanapeli is a respected authority in Fire and Safety, with over 28 years of experience in fire engineering, health and safety, and regulatory compliance. As Managing Director of Pyromax Engineering Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka’s leading fire and safety consultancy, he has significantly contributed to advancing national fire safety standards and offering expert consultancy across various industries.

He serves as Secretary and former President of the Institution of Fire Engineers – Sri Lanka (IFESL), reflecting his leadership and domain expertise. Alongside his professional work, he is a dedicated academic, lecturing at institutions such as the University of Moratuwa, University of Colombo, University of Ruhuna, SLIIT, and NIOSH, sharing advanced knowledge in fire safety, occupational health, and environmental management.

Mr. Liyanapeli holds a Graduate in Fire Engineering from the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK), and two master’s degrees: an MSc in Environmental Management (University of Colombo) and an MSc in Occupational Safety and Health Management (University of Moratuwa). He also has a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, an Advanced Diploma in Industrial Engineering, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Building Fire Safety Management at the University of Lincoln, Malaysia.

He is a Corporate Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK), a Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (UK), and a Certified Fire Engineering Practitioner (Corporate Grade). His credentials include ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Representative roles, along with qualifications in Industrial Ergonomics, Lean Manufacturing (Green Belt), and ISO 45001 Lead Auditing, underscoring his focus on compliance, operational excellence, and continuous development.

Over his career, Mr. Liyanapeli has held senior EHS and fire safety roles in leading Sri Lankan industrial organizations, including the Colombo Dockyard Fire Department, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, and senior compliance positions within MAS Holdings and Stretchline (Pvt) Ltd

Beyond his professional practice, Mr. Liyanapeli is an accomplished researcher in fire safety and environmental systems. His work has been published in reputed journals and presented at both national and international conferences. Key publications include:

Dinujaya Jayaratne -Director – Fire Detection

Dinujaya holds a BEng (Hons) in Robotics and Automation Engineering from Plymouth University, United Kingdom. He is an IFE Membership Examination candidate and a student member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. As a professional, he possesses hands-on industrial experience in fire protection and detection technologies.

Himesh Jayaratne - Director – Fire Protection

Himesh holds a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering from Plymouth University, United Kingdom. He is a candidate for the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) Membership Examination and a student member of the IFE Sri Lanka. As professional of fire protection, Himesh brings valuable industrial experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of fire protection and detection systems.

Chief Adviser - Dr Udayanga Galappaththi

Dr. Udayanga I. K. Galappaththi is a seasoned engineering professional and academic with over two decades of multidisciplinary experience across various engineering domains. He is currently serving as a resource person at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, where he contributes to both undergraduate and postgraduate education, curriculum development, and research initiatives.

Dr. Galappaththi holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Ruhuna and earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Glasgow Caledonian University, United Kingdom. His doctoral research focused on advanced engineering systems, further strengthening his expertise in mechanical and building services engineering.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Galappaththi has worked across a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines, including mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and building services engineering, both in academic and industry settings. His work has consistently bridged theory and practice, enabling innovative solutions in design, energy systems, and infrastructure development.

He is an active contributor to national development, serving on multiple local and international expert committees, offering his technical insights for shaping engineering education, policy, and sustainable development initiatives in Sri Lanka. His leadership and advisory roles have been instrumental in supporting government agencies, professional institutions, and development projects.

Dr. Galappaththi is widely recognized for his academic integrity, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment to capacity building within the engineering sector. He continues to play a pivotal role in mentoring the next generation of engineers and advancing the profession both in Sri Lanka and internationally.
